Nocturine
FATHOM’s very first longbook of fiction.
These stories—chapters?—have a terribly fey quality, holding in equal scale the contraptive, lonely horror of Silent Hill and the dynamism of a Haeckel lithograph. The prose style is—constructivist and queer, with a glitchy, maze-like quality. The characteristics of Drobnik’s Nocturine never cohere into Nocturine, finally; and so the book is like the incomplete, yearning body we each possess. As one reads, she has the feeling of recovering a strange friend.
